Coldplay has suddenly left Edmonton, Calgary and Winnipeg out in the cold.
Because of "production delays," the Brit band yesterday announced huge changes to its North American touring schedule, which include dropping shows in the above three Western Canadian cities and rescheduling their Eastern Canadian stops. As well, one of two planned Toronto shows has been scrapped.
"We're very sorry, but we promise you a show worthy of your patience and understanding when we start in mid-July," said a statement released by the band's Canadian label.
The new itinerary apparently means no dates for Edmonton, Calgary or Winnipeg. According to the original touring route, Coldplay was to perform at Edmonton's Rexall Place on July 29, at Calgary's Pengrowth Saddledome on July 30 and at Winnipeg's MTS Centre on Aug. 1. There's no word as to whether the band will add any Canadian dates to the second leg of its North American tour, which opens in mid-autumn in Ottawa.
Coldplay will still perform July 27 at the Pemberton Festival in B.C., but now visits Montreal's Bell Centre on July 29 and Toronto's Air Canada Centre on July 30. Originally these dates were penciled in for Oct. 29 in Montreal and a two-night stand in Toronto Oct. 29-30. Ottawa's Scotiabank Place show is now set for Oct. 20, a day earlier than originally planned.
Coldplay is touring behind its Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends album, which hits stores next Tuesday but which already can be heard in its entirety on the group's MySpace page. The tour now kicks off with a two-night stand in Los Angeles on July 14-15, instead of June 29 in Philadelphia.
Tickets for the Toronto and Montreal shows go on sale Saturday, with the Ottawa on-sale date yet to be announced.
