Coldplay turned up the heat on Canadian album charts this week, notching the best sales week since 2006.
The Brit-rock quartet's fourth studio effort, "Viva La Vida," blasted to the top of the charts, selling 90,000 copies in its debut, according to Nielsen SoundScan data.
The album figures make "Viva La Vida" the top debut since October of '06, when Gregory Charles' "I Think of You" racked up 92,000 copies.
However, the new disc didn't match the numbers of Coldplay's last album, 2005's "X&Y," which came in with first-week sales of 105,000.
They also grabbed the No. 1 spot south of the border, selling 720,000 copies of "Viva La Vida" in the U.S.
Back in Canada, another debut graced the charts -- the "Camp Rock" soundtrack checked in at No. 2 with sales of 11,000.
The two premieres forced Lil Wayne's "Tha Carter III" (10,000) out of No. 1 to No. 3, while punk vets The Offspring made their return to the top 10, coming in at No. 4 with their new disc "Rise & Fall, Rage & Grace."
Disturb's "Indestructible" dropped from No. 2 to No. 5, and Rihanna's "Good Girl Gone Bad" -- thanks to her appearance on the MuchMusic Video Awards last week -- shot up an astounding 45 positions to No. 6.
Rounding out the top 10 was The Lost Fingers' "Lost in the 80's" at No. 7, Katy Perry's "One of the Boys" at No. 8, Judas Priest's "Nostradamus" at No. 9, and Duffy's "Rockferry" at No. 10.
Other notable first week entries included DJ Tiesto's "In Search of Sunrise Vol. 7" at No. 11, and Wolf Parade's "At Mount Zoomer" at No. 16.
In the U.S., Lil Wayne placed second, followed by "Camp Rock" in third, "NOW 28" in fourth, and Plies' "Definition of Real" in fifth.
