Ry Cooder has played guitar brilliantly for 40 years, both on his own albums and with the Rolling Stones, Captain Beefheart, Taj Mahal and Ali Farka Toure. But he really deserves a medal for bringing traditional Cuban musicians to mainstream audiences in projects like the Buena Vista Social Club.
Cooder's latest discovery is Manuel Galban, a guitarist known for his work with the Havana doo-wop group Los Zafiros and for his unusual playing style, which Cooder calls "high-performance twang."
