YEAR OF THE DOG ... AGAIN
Dog has no bite

DMX
Year of the Dog ... Again
(Columbia/Sony BMG)

Same old dog, no new tricks. And when we say old, we mean it.

True to its title, most of DMX's underwhelming sixth album Year of the Dog ... Again dates from 2005. This CD -- titled Here We Go Again -- was supposed to come out last year on Def Jam, but was shelved while the gravel-throated gangster rapper born Earl Simmons dealt with his laundry list of legal problems and switched labels.

Too bad he didn't leave tracks like the predictable I Run S*** and the unlistenably misogynist Baby Motha on the shelf.

Ironically, the only new song that's worth a second listen is the rap-metal stomper titled Right or Wrong (I'm Tired). He sure is.

He may have been the big dog back in the day, but now DMX is all bark and no bite.
