Toronto R&B-pop star and dancer Shawn Desman has a brand new album, his fourth studio effort called Alive, out Tuesday, and his first Canadian headlining tour starting Thursday.
But, in an unusual move, there's also an accompanying mini-movie of the same, Alive, premiering Tuesday night on MuchMusic, featuring six of the album's ten songs.
"With social media and everything that people have the ability to get their hands on ... you can't just put out a record," said Desman, 31, at a downtown Toronto hotel recently.
"You have to do something interesting to get people engaged. Get people talking. So it's about giving them extra content."
The scripted mini-movie, Alive, is about a dancer from the small town of Fergus, Ont., who comes to Toronto to audition for Desman playing himself. It also stars Heartland's Kaitlyn Leeb, Degrassi's Melinda Shankar and Lost Girl's K.C. Collins.
