Ever wonder if British pop star Dido got creeped out by the lavish attention shown to her by U.S. talk show host Craig Kilborn?
It was Kilborn who actually staged a segment called "Countdown To Dido," before her first-ever appearance on his show in support of her debut -- 1999's No Angel.
"One night I turned on TV and saw that countdown he used to have," Dido told The Sun while in Toronto last week to promote her followup, Life For Rent.
"I think I was in Ohio, and had just finished a gig. I turned on the TV and I didn't know anything about the countdown. And I was, like, 'Oh, my God. This guy's crazy.' And then I went off and did his show. And he's just so lovely to me and genuinely supportive and really genuinely likes the music."
Even out from behind his desk, Kilborn is aces, says Dido.
"Like, really good fun," says the singer. "(He) will just come sit in the dressing room. It's quite unusual for a chat show host to just come and hang out for half an hour before you go on. I really like him."
But it's David Letterman who really gives Dido butterflies.
"He's definitely more reserved, " she says. "He's cool though. I'm quite in awe of him -- he's David Letterman ... But he's always so sweet. Every time I've performed, he always comes up and kisses my hand, and he's just so nice, really charming, and you're a bit (feigns a swoon), 'Oh, hello. I fancy David Letterman!' "
