Album Review: Dido

LIFE FOR RENT
By DARRYL STERDAN

LIFE FOR RENT
Dido
(Arista/BMG)

Dido's last (and first) CD No Angel was out for ages before it caught on -- thanks in no small part to Eminem's decision to sample a major chunk of her song Thank You in his single Stan. Well, the dulcet-voiced trip-folkie won't have to wait nearly as long for her platinum discs this time.

Her eagerly awaited followup Life for Rent has already topped charts in her native Britain, and probably won't land far off that mark on these shores either. Though, truth be told, Life for Rent might as well have been titled Still No Angel.

There isn't much on these 11 tracks that couldn't be found in the grooves of her earlier disc, from the dusty beatboxes and soothing chillout grooves to the lush melodies and gentle hooks to the swirly production and breathy, understated vocals.

If you've worn out her first album, you can easily replace it with this. But if you weren't sold on Dido the first time around, you'll be wasting your time and money buying Life for Rent.
