Canadian music stores suffered from the post-Christmas blues after album sales tumbled in the last week of '07.
According to figures compiled by Nielsen SoundScan, half of the artists in the top 10 saw their sales decrease significantly, with, not surprisingly, Josh Groban's No. 1 holiday album taking the biggest hit on the album charts.
Groban's "Noel" dipped from 75,000 last week to 9,000 this week -- a massive drop of 88 per cent. Despite the big fall, "Noel" managed to hang in the top 10 at No. 6.
At the top, Celine Dion's "Taking Chances" moved into No. 1 from No. 2, with sales falling 70 per cent from last week to just under 13,000 copies.
Right on her tail was Rihanna's "Good Girl Gone Bad," which jumped eight spots to No. 2 with 12,000 in sales, Alicia Keys' "As I Am" came up two to No. 3, and "MuchDance 2008" held on to the No. 4 position.
Britney Spears' latest effort "Blackout" made a nice rebound, flying up 14 notches to No. 5, while Anne Murray went the other way, sinking four to No. 7.
Avril Lavigne's "Best Damn Thing" had one of the biggest gains of the week, rising from No. 26 to No. 8, Led Zeppelin's "Mothership" claimed the No. 9 slot, and Timbaland's "Shock Value," with help from his hit single "Apologize," moved from No. 27 to No. 10.
In the U.S., Mary J. Blige's "Growing Pains" claimed the top spot, followed by Alicia Keys in second, Josh Groban in third, "NOW 26" in fourth, and Chris Brown's "Exclusive" in fifth.
