Celine Dion film a must-see
By MICHELLE COUDE-LORD, QMI Agency

The new documentary on Celine Dion, Celine: Through the Eyes of the World, offers a glimpse into the superstar’s universe as she tries to stay grounded in real life.

The film shows the confidence Dion and husband Rene Angelil have in the production company, Productions J. That trust, it appears, was there from the beginning.

For the film, the couple had to sign off on having cameras constantly following the star during her Taking Chances tour. More than 800 hours of footage was taken.

The documentary shows Dion as a loving mother, a successful artist in the midst of a demanding tour — sometimes at the expense of her health — and of course, a star loved around the world.

The film reaches out to different audiences. Those who have never seen Dion in concert will be amazed, while those who want to discover more about the globally-adored star will get a glimpse into her world.

For these reasons, the movie is a must-see.

Dion has always wanted to share everything with her fans, and this accurate look into the singer’s day-to-day life is proof of that.

She has said that she completely forgot about the cameras while the movie was being shot, and it shows. She isn’t playing a role, she’s living her life. Dion the mom is seen like never before in the documentary, and while her devoted family side is ever-present in the film, the performing artist she transforms into on stage is at the heart of the film.

When Sony Pictures executives screened the film with Angelil, they said it was rare to see a star in such an authentic light.

The Stephane Laporte production has drawn the attention of Oprah.

What should be taken from the film? Maybe that when you’re at the top, there is a price to pay; that having the world at your feet is an enormous responsibility for an artist who has the utmost respect for her fans — and in order to stay grounded, you need to be surrounded by the right people who have believed in you from Day 1.

The movie shows Celine as being human, and perfectly depicts the bond between her and Angelil. It connects the public with Dion’s words, successes, career heights and her superstardom.

Dion’s goal was for her world to remain human, real and authentic. Mission accomplished.

(This film is rated G)
