Mickey Dolenz, who will be Monkee-ing around with his old pal Davy Jones tonight and tomorrow night at Casino Rama in Orillia, was among the many former TV stars attending Wednesday's NBC 75th Anniversary All-Star reception in Hollywood.
Besides The Monkees, stars from The A-Team (Mr. T), The Golden Girls (Betty White), L.A. Law (Corbin Bernsen, Harry Hamlin and Susan Dey), Laugh-In (Gary Owens and Ruth Buzzi) and I Dream Of Jeannie (Barbara Eden) were there.
"I have many memories of being in Toronto, Canada, but not many I can tell you (for publication)," said Dolenz.
He did recall doing A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum "in Calgary or Edmonton or somewhere."
REGULAR VISITOR
He says he is a regular visitor to Montreal each summer for the Just For Laughs comedy festival. "My day job is as a director and a producer of shows for TV, so I like to head up there to check out the talent," he says.
Dolenz, who once auditioned for the part of Fonzie on Happy Days, has directed episodes of shows such as Boy Meets World and Pacific Blue.
The 56-year-old says he and Jones, who sang all of the Monkees hits back in the '60s, will be backed by an eight-member band for their Rama gig. "We still do about 125 shows a year," he says.
Not bad for a Beatle rip-off band created for television.
