Hilary Duff fell well short of notching her fourth straight No. 1 album in Canada.
Duff's latest disc, "Dignity," debuted at No. 3 on the album charts this week, selling over 20,000 copies, according to figures compiled Nielsen SoundScan.
The pop and film star was beaten out by two Francophone artists -- Daniel Belanger's "L'echec du Materiel" came in at No. 2, and Marie-Elaine Thibert's "Comme Ca" premiered at No. 1 with sales of just under 33,000.
It marks Thibert's second consecutive No. 1 album here (her 2004 self-titled CD checked in at No. 1 back in April of 2004), and the second best debut of '07, behind Norah Jones' "Not Too Late," which racked up 36,000 in first week sales back in February.
Timbaland's "Timbaland Presents: Shock Value" entered at No. 4, Nelly Furtado's "Loose" slipped one spot to No. 5, and Tim McGraw, after spending one week perched atop the charts with his ninth disc "Let It Go," fell down to No. 6.
Mika's "Life in Cartoon Motion" fell down two positions to No. 7, and Justin Timberlake's "FutureSex/LoveSounds" went the other way, rising four notches to No. 8.
Neil Young's CD/DVD "Live at Massey Hall 1971" occupied the No. 9 spot, and Akon's "Konvicted" rounded out the top 10 at No. 10.
Other notable debuts this week included Martina McBride's "Waking Up Laughing" at No. 14, the compilation "Just the Hits 2007" at No. 26, Kings of Leon's "Because of the Times" at No. 31, Dany Bedar's "Y'a du Monde" at No. 33, Alison Krauss' "A Hundred Miles or More: A Collection" at No. 36, Chevelle's "Vena Sera" at No. 42, and George Strait, Alan Jackson and Jimmy Buffett's "Live at Texas Stadium" at No. 49.
In the U.S., the "NOW! 24" compilation moved up to the top spot, followed by Tim McGraw in second, Martina McBride in third, Hilary Duff in fourth, and Timbaland in fifth.
