Eagles album tops in Canada
Exclusive Wal-Mart release sells more than 50,000 albums

Wal-Mart Canada Corp. has announced that yesterday it sold its 50,000th copy of the Eagles’ “Long Road Out of Eden”– released Oct. 30 exclusively at Wal-Mart. In just nine days, the album has achieved gold status, becoming the current best-selling album in Canada, and Wal-Mart Canada’s best-selling music product since it began business in 1994. The two-disc set of 20 new songs is available in Wal-Mart’s Canadian stores for $11.88, an equivalent price to Wal-Mart U.S. stores.

“We knew Eagles fans were anxiously waiting for ‘Long Road Out of Eden,’ but it has exceeded our first week projections,” said Dan Belec, Division Merchandise Manager, Wal-Mart Canada. “With the holiday season approaching we are confident that the double-CD package will be one of the biggest sellers in Wal-Mart history.”

“The band produced and delivered an album of integrity that was in keeping with their legacy – and the fans in Canada responded,” said Irving Azoff, Eagles manager. “The phenomenal first week sales of ‘Long Road Out of Eden’ are a testament to Wal-Mart’s marketing and distribution.”

“Long Road Out of Eden” reflects the band and Wal-Mart’s shared commitment to environmental sustainability. The album packaging features Domtar EarthChoice papers. To ensure paper is sourced from well-managed forests, EarthChoice papers are certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), publicly endorsed by the Rainforest Alliance and supported by World Wildlife Fund and Forest Ethics. This unique CD package contains 30 percent post-consumer recycled fiber, and virgin fiber from FSC Certified forests or other controlled sources.
