Artist: Eels


Everett handles electric Eels
"I see ads for Jim Belushi's band in the newspaper that say, 'Come see this blues legend,' " Mark Oliver Everett laments. "I figure if Jim Belushi's a blues legend, I must be pretty close to being one. I'm not much on romantic sitcoms, though -- we all have our niche."

Everett (you can call him 'E') found his niche as a child growing up in Virginia near D.C. And by age 20, he and his music had left Virginia, travelling as far west as America's highways would take them.

The eclectic Eels
Considering the sorrowful lines that bop through their hit song Novocaine For The Soul, it's comforting to know that the L.A.-based trio Eels are actually enjoying their success. Sort of.

"It's always fun when you're in a truck stop in Indiana and you hear Novocaine For The Soul," says Eels singer-guitarist-keyboardist who calls himself E. "Of course, the truckers who want to beat us up couldn't care less if we have a hit song." That helps keep things in perspective.
