"O" star Mekhi Phifer and "Girl Interrupted's" Brittany Murphy have joined the cast of Eminem's upcoming movie debut, says The Hollywood Reporter.

The film, which currently has the title "The Untitled Detroit Project" and is being directed by "L.A. Confidential's" Curtis Hanson, will see Eminem in the pivotal role of Jimmy, a Motor City denizen struggling to find his identity.

Phifer, who is also doing a five-episode stint on "ER," will play Jimmy's pal Future, while Murphy will take on the role of Jimmy's girlfriend Alex. Giovanni Ribisi plays a white rapper named Wink.

Eminem and Dr. Dre are collaborating on the soundtrack, the report said. (More on Eminem)
