Eminem's '8 Mile' dethrones The King
By JOHN WILLIAMS

After spending five weeks on top of the Canadian album charts, The King of Rock 'N' Roll was finally knocked from his throne by the king of hip-hop.

The soundtrack to the Eminem film "8 Mile," took over the No. 1 spot on first week sales of 44,500, helping sink Elvis Presley's "Elvis: 30 No. 1 Hits" (14,100) down to fourth spot, according to data compiled by Nielsen SoundScan Canada.

Eminem's strong debut gave the controversial rapper two albums in the top 10, as his previously released "The Eminem Show" (8,200) held onto 10th spot.

The new Nirvana greatest hits album, simply titled "Nirvana," made a strong debut at No. 2 on sales of 23,200, while Christina Aguilera's revealing new album "Stripped" (14,800) checked in at No. 3.

Pop-reggae star Shaggy landed in fifth with "Lucky Day" (12,300), Avril Lavigne's "Let Go" (11,140) slipped a spot to sixth, Santana's "Shaman" (11,120) slipped from fourth to seventh, and The Rolling Stones' compilation "Forty Licks" (10,500) plummeted to eighth from second.

Country music crossover artist Faith Hill dropped from sixth to ninth with her album "Cry" (8,500).

Other chart debuts included Nick Carter's solo debut "Now Or Never" at No. 11, Tori Amos' "Scarlet Walk" at No. 13, Sigur Ros' "()" at No. 24, and Rascal Flatts' "Melt" at No. 49.

In the U.S., "8 Mile" debuted with huge sales of 702,200, Christina Aguilera (330,400) and Nirvana (234,300) entered in second and third respectively, Santana (174,900) dropped from first to fourth, and Rascal Flatts (168,900) entered in fifth.
