Canadian music stores suffered from the post-Christmas blues as sales took a typical tumble in the last week of 2005.
According to figures compiled by Nielsen SoundScan, eight out of the ten artists in the top 10 saw their sales decrease significantly, with Madonna's latest effort taking the biggest hit on the album charts.
Madonna's "Confessions On A Dancefloor" dipped from 43,000 last week to 18,000 this week -- a drop of 58 per cent. Despite the big fall, "Confessions" managed to hold onto the No. 3 position.
Closer to the top, Eminem's greatest hits compilation "Curtain Call" remained at No. 1 for a fourth straight week, with sales falling 48 per cent from last week to just under 30,000 copies.
Sandwiched in between was the Black Eyed Peas' "Monkey Business" (22,000) which rose up five spots to No. 2.
James Blunt's "Back To Bedlam" also moved up five postions to No. 4, System of a Down's "Hypnotize" went up from No. 14 to No. 5, and Johnny Cash's "The Legend of Johnny Cash" gained seven to No. 6.
The soundtrack to 50 Cent's "Get Rich or Die Tryin'" film re-entered the top 10 at No. 8, the seasonal collection "MuchDance 2006" sank from No. 5 to No. 9, and The Tragically Hip's hits package "Yer Favourites" had one of the biggest gains of the week, rising from No. 32 to No. 10.
There were no new entries in the top 75, an indication of how new CD releases completely shut down over the holidays.
