Canadian music stores couldn't break out of the post-Christmas doldrums as album sales took yet another slide this week.
According to figures compiled by Nielsen SoundScan, all 10 artists in the top 10 saw their sales decrease significantly, with the Strokes' latest effort taking the biggest hit on the album charts.
The band's third album, "First Impressions Of Earth," dropped from No. 3 to No. 6 in its second week of release, dipping from 14,000 in sales last week to just over 9,000 this week -- a drop of 55 per cent.
Meanwhile, Eminem's greatest hits compilation "Curtain Call" remained at No. 1 for a sixth straight week, with sales falling 31 per cent from last week to just under over 9,000 copies.
James Blunt's "Back To Bedlam" rose two notches to No. 2, Madonna's "Confessions On A Dancefloor" moved down from No. 2 to No. 3, Il Divo's "Ancora" claimed No. 4, and "MuchDance 2006" held onto No. 5.
Nickelback's "All The Right Reasons" gained two spots to No. 7, the Black Eyed Peas' "Monkey Business" dropped one to No. 8, Kelly Clarkson's "Breakaway" occupied the No. 9 spot, and Johnny Cash's "The Legend of Johnny Cash" rounded out the top 10.
There were no other new entries in the top 50.
In the U.S., Mary J. Blige's "The Breakthrough" hit the No. 1 position, followed by Jamie Foxx's "Unpredictable" in second, Carrie Underwood's "Some Hearts" in third, Eminem in fourth, and Notorious B.I.G.'s "Duets: The Final Chapter" in fifth.
