YES TO EVERYTHING
New 54-40 a mixed bagBy ALLAN WIGNEY -- Ottawa Sun
54-40 YES TO EVERYTHING (MapleMusic) It has to be confusing for a veteran Canadian band. A dozen or so albums cut from the same cloth; countless road trips across the country; radio "hits" that somehow never translate into sales. It is surely a blur. And it helps to explain why Vancouver's 54-40 accidentally kick off their latest album with a song built upon the riff from Sloan's Money City Maniacs. Indeed, it takes the veteran quartet a few tracks to remember how to be 54-40. Once they do, of course, all is forgiven. And we can certainly count on hearing vintage 54-40 rockers like Blue Plate Special and Calling You Out on the airwaves this summer. Other highlights include a fine acoustic country-rock song called On the Road Home that appropriately wraps things up and reminds us -- in case Neil Osborne's distinctive world-weary voice had not up to that point -- that we are listening to a band we have too often taken for granted and that still has an ace or two up its collective sleeve. And it's not Sloan. Track Listing: 1. Easy To Love
