"Yep. I told you so. I look gay," the thin funk soul brother laughs, posing in the mirror. This gets a chuckle from the half-dozen managers, handlers, label people and beer company onlookers in the room (so much for one-on-one). But it's no wonder they're around: This man, who essentially tinkers with other people's music for a living, is worth a great deal of money to them. His world is the new hope built on the old.
