TORONTO - Super-hot Canadian indie artist Feist returned to her roots while treating Toronto fans to two surprise club shows this week leading up to her dates at Massey Hall tomorrow night and the Air Canada Centre on Monday.
The first show took place Tuesday night at the Rivoli where the Calgary-raised, Toronto-based singer-songwriter took part in a songwriter's circle with other musicians, including Wayne Petti from Cuff The Duke, in the back room at the Queen St. Club. The room can hold a couple hundred people.
The only indication Feist would be appearing at the club where she once tended bar was when her name went up in chalk on The Rivoli's outdoor sandwich sign about 2 p.m. Tickets were sold at the door for $20.
The next day a riddle appeared on Feist's website hinting she would stage a second show at The Cameron House, another old Queen St. haunt of hers.
This time the singer played acoustic guitar alongside her plugged in lead guitarist Afie Jurvanen, in front of a small crowd of about 65. Her set included a cover of Lucinda Williams' Fruits of My Labor.
Feist is currently crossing the country on her first major arena tour in Canada in support of The Reminder, which garnered her five Junos earlier this year, including album of the year.
