Sue Foley sweeps Maple Blues Awards

The awards, which were presented Tuesday night in Toronto, saw Foley take home five of the 16 prizes for her work on her latest album, "Love Comin' Down." The album won record of the year, while Foley was named entertainer of the year, vocalist of the year, guitarist of the year and songwriter of the year. Her producer, Colin Linden, was named producer of the year. Foley spent several years in Austin, Texas, honing her skills in that city's musical hotbed, before returning to Canada two years ago. On her upcoming tour, Foley will open shows for B.B. King, John Lee Hooker and the Neville Brothers. The awards, presented at Toronto's Phoenix Concert Theatre, were voted on by the Toronto Blues Society's 600 members, as well as by blues fans from across the country. Vancouver-based Colin James won the male vocalist award, while Halifax's Carson Downey Band was named the year's top new artist.
