Dave Grohl's Foo Fighters return to the Molson Amphitheatre in Toronto tomorrow night after playing a contest-winners only show at Lee's earlier this year.
The Foos are touring in support of their double album, In Your Honor, which is made up of one rocking electric disc and one quieter acoustic collection.
Grohl said the genesis for the entire project began when he was playing around with the idea of doing a film score.
"I started writing all this acoustic music that was turning out great," Grohl told the Sun while in town. "But then I couldn't imagine doing something that people would consider a solo album. I didn't want to do that. And I listened to the music and I thought, 'This could make really cool Foo Fighters record.' So I thought either it's going to be an acoustic record or we're going to do a double album. And I didn't really want to live without big loud rock music for long."
In fact, Grohl said a lot of the rock songs were inspired by some solo acoustic performances he did over a two-week period for Democratic candidate John Kerry during the last presidential election.
"It was really inspiring, not so much his specific political message, which I believed in, but more the reaction that the people had to him," said Grohl. "It was really inspiring to see people drawn together or joined together as community or citizens just dedicated or devoted to this one cause. It was beautiful and they were serious. There was so much passion and so much devotion that it inspired me to write songs like In Your Honor and Best Of You and No Way Back. It was great. I came back from that trip and I felt like it had changed my life."
