SKIN AND BONES
Foos get semi-unpluggedBy DARRYL STERDAN -- Winnipeg Sun
Foo Fighters Skin and Bones (Roswell-RCA/Sony BMG) Before the release of last year's half-electric, half-acoustic double album In Your Honor, Foo Fighters leader Dave Grohl said the band's tour would be a similar affair, with the band playing two different shows in each market. That plan never came to fruition -- but here's the next best thing. The single-disc live CD Skin and Bones captures a recent semi-unplugged performance from an L.A. theatre. Fleshing out their guitar-driven sound with strings, keyboards, vibes, accordion and harmonica, Grohl and his expanded Foos (including old pal Pat Smear on guitar) sit and strum a 15-song set of In Your Honor tracks like Razor and Friend of a Friend, along with lush, intimate updates of older hits like My Hero, Big Me and Everlong. Grohl breaks out the big scream for Best of You, but overall, this is a mellow, nicely restrained affair that makes you wish he had stuck to his ambitious tour plan and seen it through. If you want to see for yourself, be patient -- the DVD is due Nov. 28. Track Listing:
1. Razor
