Strings attached to history
Amanda Forsyth's cello was stolen in 1998, and when she got it back several months later, she hated it.

"I had to get a new one, and I'd always stayed away from historical instruments because I knew I'd love their sound but I couldn't afford one," said the former Edmontonian on the phone from Ottawa, where she's first cellist with the National Arts Orchestra.

National tour excites cellist
Amanda Forsyth is coming home to Edmonton - and with a stage full of new friends.

 The top-notch cellist, daughter of Edmonton composer Malcolm Forsyth, put the Calgary Philharmonic behind her last year and moved to Ottawa where she is first cellist of the National Arts Centre Orchestra, which plays tonight at the Winspear in its first national tour in seven years.
