You kids pay attention, now
By KIERAN GRANT
Not one to cut corners, Red Hot Chili Peppers' John Frusciante laid out his guitar practice regimen for us in a recent interview.

Explaining that he habitually plays along with other artists records, Frusciante recently "learned all The Smiths' songs -- everything Johnny Marr did. I learned all of John McGeoch's stuff in Magazine and Siouxsie & The Banshees. I learned stuff by XTC. I was trying to learn the technical high-end players of the new wave scene.

"At the moment I've been listening to English folk music like Steeleye Span and Fairport Convention -- Burt Jansch, Richard Thompson. I've been learning this completely new way of thinking about and using chords and rhythms."
