Album Review: Fugazi

THE ARGUMENT
By KIERAN GRANT

THE ARGUMENT
Fugazi
(Dischord)

With the world in a state of upheaval, the timing couldn't be better for the latest release from Fugazi, the venerated D.C. indie-rock politicos. Like a leftist bolt out of the red, white, and blue, Fugazi detail with vivid conviction issues such as tenants and workers rights -- not exactly the forefront of popular discourse at a time when any criticism of the American system seems tantamount to treason.

The band's voice is as loud and eloquent as ever, made sharper by their sidestepping the artsy experimentation of latter-day albums. Singer-guitarist Guy Picciotto, still playing a sort of Mick Jones to co-frontman Ian MacKaye's Joe Strummer, spearheads a stellar pop assault on stand-out tracks Full Disclosure and Nightshop -- just check out the catchy chorus and "ooo"-ing vocals on the former. Even as they embrace their post-punk roots, Fugazi continue to move forward. Suitably blinding stuff.
