Furtado promises Juno surprises
By JANE STEVENSON - Sun Media

The Juno Awards are, to quote The Guess Who, "running back to Sasktoon" this weekend.

Tomorrow night will see 32 of Canada's music trophies handed out during a pre-telecast gala dinner and awards hosted by triple nominee Gregory Charles at TCU Place.

On Sunday night, the remaining seven Junos will be awarded during the actual Junos telecast (7 p.m. in Ontario) at the Credit Union Centre hosted by five-time nominee Nelly Furtado.

Furtado told Sun Media during a recent interview in her hometown of Victoria, B.C., that the hosting gig is a whole new ballgame for her despite recent forays into acting, including a small part as a shoplifter on CSI:New York.

"The hosting thing is new to me 'cause I'm not really used to dealing with the red tape of hosting a huge television production like that," said Furtado. "So, luckily, CTV has helped me hone some of my rough ideas 'cause I actually had a lot of ideas for this show and the way I wanted to host it, so they've been really cooperative in making them happen."

Not that Furtado was dropping any major hints about what viewers can expect.

"I will say that it won't be what you expect. I can guarantee it's not what you expect. I hope people like it and I hope people enjoy the show. It could be horrible, I'm warning you, you may hate it. That's my other little clue. You may hate it," she said with a laugh.
