We are tired of The Goo Goo Dolls. So very, very tired. Thus, the prospect of a new disc from the increasingly sappy Johnny Rzeznik and co. does not fill us with joy.

In fact, there is only one thing less appealing than a new Goo Goo Dolls CD -- and that is a new Goo Goo Dolls CD produced by Glen Ballard, a man who has ruined more good bands than heroin and small aircraft combined.

Admittedly, he didn't have a lot to work with on the Googs' instantly forgettable eighth disc Let Love In, a dozen-slice cheese wheel of midtempo pop-rockers and arena-sized power ballads. But still, as is his wont, shlockmeister Ballard extinguishes even the tiniest spark of life from these cuts by turning down the guitars, smothering everything with his blandly glossy sonics and polishing it all into identically shiny little radio-ready turds.

The result: Music for people who don't really like music. An album for people who find Bon Jovi too heavy and threatening.

And more songs for suburban moms to crank up in the SUV while picking up the kids from soccer practice.
