Good's 'Avalanche' slides down chart
By JOHN WILLIAMS -- JAM! Showbiz

Matthew Good suffered a second week slide down the Canadian album charts.

After a solid entry at No. 2 last week, Good's "Avalanche" plummeted to ninth with sales of 7,700, according to data compiled by Nielsen SoundScan.

It was well down from the 16,800 copies the album sold in the previous week.

Meanwhile, Norah Jones's "Come Away With Me" claimed the top spot for the third week in a row, racking up sales of 24,900. The album now has combined sales of over 350,000 since its release in March of last year.

50 Cent's "Get Rich Or Die Tryin'" (15,600) moved up from third to second, Avril Lavigne's "Let Go" (11,300) claimed third and Shania Twain's "Up!" (9,800) climbed two spots to fourth.

The Dixie Chicks controversial comments about U.S. President George W. Bush last week didn't seem to affect sales of "Home," as the album rose from seventh to fifth on sales of 9,400. (Incidentally, the album moved from sixth to fourth on the U.S. charts.)

The "Grammy Nominees 2003" (9,000) compilation slipped one position to sixth and Isabelle Boulay's "Au Moment D'Etre A Vous" (8,800) claimed the seventh spot.

Ben Harper had the highest debut of the week with his new album "Diamonds On The Inside" (8,100) which checked in at No. 8, and A.F.I.'s "Sing The Sorrow" (7,000) premiered in 10th.

Other debuts included the compilation "Juno Awards 2003" at No. 24, MC Mario's "Mixdown 2003" at No. 29, The Be Good Tanyas' "Chinatown" at No. 39, and Everclear's "Slowmotion Daydream" at No. 43.

In the U.S., 50 Cent held the No. 1 position, followed by Norah Jones in second, R. Kelly's "Chocolate Factory" in third and A.F.I. in fifth.

Here are the 10 best-selling albums in Canada, according to Nielsen SoundScan:

1. NORAH JONES -- "COME AWAY WITH ME" (24,900)

2. 50 CENT -- "GET RICH OR DIE TRYIN'" (15,600)
