IN A COMA: 1995 - 2005
Deluxe Matthew is Good for youBy DARRYL STERDAN -- Winnipeg Sun
Matthew Good In a Coma: 1995 - 2005 (Universal) A Matthew Good anthology? Isn't that awfully accommodating of the notoriously cantankerous Canrocker? Guess he's finally mellowing in his old age. But as usual, when Good does something he does it right. In a Coma -- the three-disc deluxe version, anyway -- is an exhaustive overview of Matt's decade-long recording career. The first disc has 14 highlights and singles from his six studio albums and assorted EPs, along with two new cuts and one previously unreleased tune from 2001. The second disc has recently recorded acoustic versions of nine Good classics, along with 10 B-sides and rarities (from the Loser Anthems and Lo-Fi B-Sides EPs). After you sit through all that, pop in the DVD, which has 17 videos with commentary tracks, a short in-studio documentary, a handful of slide shows and a full discography including singles, EPs and promotional-only releases for the collectors in the crowd. For the cheapskates, there's also a single-disc version minus all the goodies, bells and whistles. But we wouldn't recommend it. After all, when a guy like Good decides to be a gift horse, don't look him in the mouth -- unless you want to get your nose chewed off. Track Listing:
