Right from the Gut
Jim Guthrie is the three guts in Three Gut Records -- his Guelph label named itself after his schoolyard nickname -- and now he's spilling them on his second solo CD.

The album is called Morning Noon Night, but the emphasis is definitely on night. Talk about midnight confessions -- Guthrie sings of evil thoughts, tentative 3 a.m. seductions and being "inar- inar- inarticulate" before the object of his desire in 12 deceptively simple songs.

When Jim Guthrie last visited Ottawa, he brought his Sony PlayStation along. Not for recreational purposes, but as the Toronto-based musician's instrument of choice.

"It was born out of necessity," Guthrie says of his fondness for creating musical pastiches on his game system. "I didn't really have the chance to get a live band together.
