THE HANDLER
Har Mar Superstar
(Record Collection/Warner)
Har Mar Superstar has to be seen to be believed. Even then, it's not that easy.
Basically, the pudgy Har Mar is a doppelganger for porn hedgehog Ron Jeremy. And his "act" consists mostly of stripping down to his skivvies and breakdancing while crooning disco ditties raunchy enough to make Peaches blush.
In the studio, Har Mar is just as unbelievable -- but for better reasons. On his remarkable third album The Handler, the former Minnesotan born Sean Tillman once again shows off his real moves: He plays several instruments, has a supple yet strong voice that compares with Stevie Wonder and pens inescapably hooky disco, soul and hip-hop hip-swivellers with titles like Back the Camel Up.
So whether you believe his Superstar shtik or not, it's easy to see Tillman has the talent to back up his image.
