Young drummer to the Starrs
News this week that drummer Zak Starkey is making a return engagement to Toronto with Johnny Marr and the Healers for a May 22 stop at the Opera House. So it seems as good a time as any to get some words from Starkey's father.

Johnny Marr forms his own band
Say what you will about Morrissey's moaning, the Smiths were one of the most important English bands of the '80s. And Johnny Marr's distinctive metallic guitar sound had more to do with the Smiths' success than many historians allow.

Since the Smiths' breakup in 1987, Marr has played with a long list of musicians, from Bernard Sumner (in Electronic) to Kirsty MacColl, The The, Talking Heads, the Pretenders, Beck, even Oasis. Now he's got his own band, The Healers, which he brings to Lee's Palace Jan. 26 to play songs from their about-to-be-released album, Boomslang.
