Critics keep calling Ben Heppner a heldentenor (heroic tenor), meaning a tenor ideal for Wagner's operas, but Heppner himself avoids the term.
"I consider myself a lyric tenor with a larger voice,'' the internationally admired Canadian singer said from New York, where he was starring in Wagner's Die Meistersinger at the Metropolitan Opera.
