"It's really strange, these little micro-genres of music," Scott Herren observes. "I'm pretty clueless about most electronic music. I don't really keep up with it, but I like it."
Likewise, keeping up with Herren's musical personas can be a challenge. Through Delarosa & Asora, the jazzy Savath & Savalas, and more recently Prefuse 73, the DJ and producer has defied expectations at every turn. With the release of Prefuse 73's Vocal Studies + Uprock Narratives last year, Herren seemingly found his groove, reinventing hip hop and adding yet another sub-genre ("glitch-hop") to a crowded vocabulary. With a subsequent EP release, he took even that project to a wildly different place.
