The Holmes Brothers sing about heaven a lot, but don't be fooled -- these old dogs still know how to raise a little hell.

"We might not be so religious as people think we are," chuckles 61-year-old Sherman Holmes, bassist for the bluesy gospel-groove outfit that includes his 57-year-old little brother Wendell on guitar and 59-year-old drummer Popsy Dixon.

THE RETURN OF SHERMAN HOLMES: It took The Holmes Brothers 30 years to put out their first album. Eight years after that debut, the New York City trio's track record puts bands half their age to shame.

The band -- singer-bassist-keyboardist Sherman Homes, singer-guitarist Wendell Holmes, and singer-drummer Popsy Dixon -- unveil their fifth disc, Promised Land, Monday night at the Horseshoe.
