New I Mother Earth singer unveiled
By KAREN BLISS - Jam! Music

The new I Mother Earth singer, whose identity had been kept secret for several weeks, was revealed at last night's Moist concert at Massey Hall in Toronto.

As members of I Mother Earth watched the show from side stage, Moist singer David Usher spontaneously invited drummer Christian Tanna onstage during the encore, then introduced "Brian, the new singer for I Mother Earth," coaxing him out from the wings for a brief hello.

Bleach-blond Brian Byrne, originally from Newfoundland, has been living in Toronto for a year and a half. His tape was given to I Mother Earth by a third party whose opinion the band trusted.

Bassist Bruce Gordon, guitarist Jagori Tanna and brother Christian had been sifting through hundreds of auditions tapes, CDs and videos since Edwin's departure. The multi-platinum rock band officially announced it had found a singer on its web site Nov. 13, but his name had never been released.

In a posted statement, the band said: "He has all the talent, voice and charisma we could have hoped for and more. We have been writing intensely together for the past few months and are starting to demo some of the new material."
