He's not just 6 feet, 5 inches of sexy, goofy charm.
Tom Jackson, star of the acclaimed TV show North of 60, can sing a bunch, too.
Possessed of what Peter Gzowski calls "the deepest voice in Canada," Jackson sang his lungs out to a large crowd at the Coca-Cola stage last night.
Kids, teens and parents app-lauded, making it clear Jackson could do no wrong. And he didn't.
Singing from his CDs No Regrets and That Side of the Window, he kept hands clapping to the accompaniment of a ton of audience "yahoos."
Resplendent in a black leather jacket, his braid aquiver, Jackson told a passel of silly jokes before finally picking up his guitar.
But once he started singing, he slipped easily from folk to ballad to honky tonk. Jackson stuck in a little of the blues, a touch of rock and couple of western moves.
He is reminiscent of every singer/poet/activist, from Woody Guthrie through Pete Seeger.
He sings poetry and he is uniquely Calgary's Tom Jackson.
