Robert Redford and Rolling Stone-turned-movie-mogul Mick Jagger are prepared to go head-to-head with competing biopics on the life of Latin American rebel Che Guevara.
Salon.com reports that Jagger has lined up Antonio Banderas to star in "Tania," which zooms in on Guevara's relationship with East German spy Tania Burke.
Meanwhile, Redford has tapped Oscar-winner Benicio Del Toro to star in "The Motorcycle Diaries," which retells the story of Guevara's bike journey across South America.
Salon.com said Jagger put off a Rolling Stones tour to shepherd the project.
"Mick has been fascinated by Che since his college days at the London School of Economics," a source told the Ananova.com site.
"But he knows that if Redford gets his movie on screen first, they are dead and buried." (More on Mick Jagger and Robert Redford)
