After supposedly retiring his recording career with the release of his latest album, Jay-Z may be hoping to break into the basketball business.
MTV.com reports the rapper, who released his ninth LP "The Black Album" this week, is considering making a bid for the New Jersey Nets NBA basketball franchise.
According to an ESPN report, Jay-Z has hired the New York investment company Andrew, Alexander, Wise & Co. to look into a possible bid on the team. The Nets' parent company, YankeeNets, put the team up for sale before the current season. Four previous bids, each about $250 million US, have already been placed.
Spokespeople for the rapper, the investment company and YankeeNets refused to comment.
Before he closes the door on his rap career, Jay-Z will perform one final show Tuesday in New York. His farewell performance at Madison Square Garden will include possible performances with Mary J. Blige, Missy Elliott, Jermaine Dupri and Madonna.
