A new album, a Top 20 video, national touring -- and now a guest spot on MuchMusic's TooMuch4Much.
Yes, this has been a good spring for Dave Swiecicki and Trevor Tuminski -- the Winnipeg duo who form the basis of Jet Set Satellite, the fledgling rock group which has taken Canadian modern rock radio by storm with its riff-happy first single Best Way to Die. The video for the tune has even cracked the Top 20 on the MuchMusic Countdown.
The pair's first album for Nettwerk Records, called Blueprint, is selling quite nicely, too, especially now the group is on the road opening for Bif Naked, rounded out by local players Jeff Tetrault (drums), Mike Keller (guitars) and Josh Eskin (bass).
"Everything is working great, we've got an excellent cast of characters along for the ride," Tuminski said before the band's two Winnipeg shows last weekend. "It's been great to see the songs come to live fruition and we've been making new fans everywhere we go."
Tuminski will be hoping to win more friends and influence people with his appearance on TooMuch4Much Monday afternoon (3:30 Winnipeg time) to discuss the controversial subject matter of Best Way to Die.
The panel discussion program offers artists the opportunity to explain their intentions in song which may be misinterpreted by young audiences.
"I'm going on basically to talk about our album and our song, so it can't really hurt us," says the affable, 24-year-old singer/guitarist. "I'm actually really looking forward to it."
Describing the experience of touring as the "most enjoyable" of his short musical career, Tuminski says the band loves being able to play.
"We're still very, very hungry for everything," he says. "We try to concentrate on putting on the most energetic show that we can and prove that we're ready for anything.
"We're so pumped at the moment, we're like an engine in the red."
Swiecicki and Tuminski are hoping to bury the needle with the group's next single, the high-energy Baby Cool Your Jets. The video for the tune was shot two weeks ago in Toronto and should hit MuchMusic this coming week, Tuminski said.
