Album Review: Jimmy Eat World

STAY ON MY SIDE TONIGHT
Snack on Jimmy

Jimmy Eat World
Stay on My Side Tonight
(Interscope/Universal)

Sorry, Jimmy fans. Stay on My Side Tonight is not a full-length followup to the emo heroes' 2004 full-length Futures. But it is an EP with some pretty decent, low-wattage cuts that were supposedly left over from those sessions.

Disintegration is a moody breakup dirge, Over is a dreamily melodic power ballad, Closer is a moody little strum-and-thump rocker that starts with understated vocals and builds to a noisy squall a la Sonic Youth; Half Right is a cover of an old Elliott Smith Heatmiser lament; and Futures' Drugs or Me is given a glitchy remix treatment.

None of it is amazing, to be sure. But it oughta be enough to tide you over until the next album.

Track Listing:

1. Disintegration
2. Over
3. Closer
4. Half Right
5. Drugs or Me [Styrofoam Remix] [Mix]
