Hawaiian surfer-turned-singer Jack Johnson made a huge splash on the Canadian album charts this week.
His soundtrack "Sing-A-Longs and Lullabies" for the animated film "Curious George" shot to No. 1 on sales of over 17,000, according to data compiled by Nielsen SoundScan Canada.
It marks the first No. 1 for Johnson in Canada. His previous chart high was at No. 3 with his third effort, last year's "In Between Dreams."
Johnson also grabbed the top spot south of the border, selling close to 163,000 copies of "Sing-A-Longs and Lullabies" in the U.S.
Elsewhere in the Canadian top 10, the Valentine's compilation "From the Heart" remained at No. 2, "Salut Joe" (tribute to french artist Joe Dassin) came in at No 3, while James Blunt sank from No. 1 to No. 4.
Andrea Bocelli's "Amore" and Madonna's "Confessions On A Dancefloor" both moved down two positions to No. 5 and No. 6, respectively, while the annual "Grammy Nominees" compilation rose one to No. 7.
Il Divo's "Ancora" fell from No. 7 to No. 8, Michael Buble's "It's Time" occupied the No. 9 slot, and Eminem's "Curtain Call" sank five notches to No. 10.
Other notable debuts in the top 50 included In Flames' "Come Clarity" at No. 27, Malajube's "Trompe L'Oeil" at No. 33 and Belle and Sebastian's "Life Pursuit" at No. 46.
In the U.S., Mary J. Blige's "The Breakthrough" held onto second, followed by Barry Manilow's "The Greatest Songs of the Fifties" in third, Andrea Bocelli in fourth, and Dem Franchise Boyz's "On Top of Our Game" at No. 5.
