Sharing the bill with Michael Bolton presents its own set of circumstances. So Wynonna had to win them over and win them she did, proving why she a star in her own right.
Beginning with a revved up rockin' Wyld Unknown, Wynonna just socked the crowd with back-to-back hard smashes. Then it was right into Somebody To Love.
This is a woman who is known to be a strong spirited, freebird who speaks her mind with the same intensity as she rips into a song.
In some quarters that's also know as self-confidence.
Right in the middle of her second song a fan brought her a bouquet and laid it on the stage. He turned to walk away and as he did she stopped singing and said "Hey, come here" and dragged him up for a hug -- nice move.
Throughout the show she chatted away with the audience. She let one guy come up and boogie with her and kept joking with some other guy who kept yelling during the songs. She finally ordered him up on stage and made him sit in a little chair in front of her while she belted out a piece of personal humiliation called Don't You Throw That Mojo On Me.
It was this constant interaction, brassy talk and wall-to-wall hot tunes that kept this segment of the evening in high gear.
But it was the gentle emotional ballads like To Be Loved By You, Is It Over Yet and Come Some Rainy Day (with a wonderful dedication to her little sister Ashley Judd) that is what we'll remember.
It showed that in concert Wynonna has a voice that will reach right out and grab your heart in the warmest, most personal way.
What a wonderful gift to have and to receive.
