There's an old musician's joke that involves a castaway on a tropical island. He hears drumming day and night. All the natives will say is, "Drums stop, very bad." Months go by. One day, the drums stop. The natives panic and scream, "Drums stop! Very bad! Time for the bass solo!"
Bassist Chris Tarry knows that one. One of the secrets of being a fairly famous Canadian jazz musician is having a sense of humour. After his gig with Junction at the Yardbird Suite tomorrow night, Tarry is back on the West Coast to prepare for the Vancouver Bass Conference 2001 - where there will be lots of bass solos.
