THE BEST OF BOTH WORLDS
By MIKE BELL
THE BEST OF BOTH WORLDS R. Kelly & Jay-Z (Jive) Two musical styles, contemporary R&B and mainstream rap, find common ground. That's nice. But it would be a whole lot nicer if that common ground wasn't located entirely in the libidos of R. Kelly and Jay-Z. R. Kelly has a smooth g-and-t voice, Jay-Z can rhyme it up fine. Put together, the latter adds a nice spike to the former's soulful base. The slick bouncy production on Both Worlds also provides a nice playpen for the pair to work in, giving each the perfect platform for his vocals. The only real problem with the collaboration is they seem to be trying to outdo one another in the art of dirty, sleazy lyrical seduction. Halfway through, it gets a little tiresome and you wish R. Kelly and Jay-Z's worlds didn't both revolve around sex. (More on R. Kelly and Jay-Z) Track Listing |
