LET YOU DOWN
By KIERAN GRANT

LET YOU DOWN
The Kingsbury Manx
(Overcoat)

More dreamy meanderings from this North Carolina neo-psych band, whose sound re-thinks the musical foundation laid by the likes of Galaxie 500 into some sort of beautiful, long and winding math problem. The guitars are more angular than on last year's debut -- jazzy and complex at the centre while smoothed out around the edges by close harmonies and droning melodies.

Et Tu, Kittie?, Arun, and the vaguely prog-like Baby You're A Dead Man, with their elastic use of banjo and some sort of keyboard or electric violin, sound like down-home answers to both Brian Wilson and Mogwai. Music to enjoy with feet planted on the front porch and your head in outer space.
