Krall wins National Jazz Awards
By -- Sun Media

Seems two was the lucky number at the 2007 National Jazz Awards, held at the Palais Royale last night.

Many of this year's award winners took their trophies home in doubles, including musician/instrumentalist of the year Don Thompson, arranger/clarinetist of the year Phil Nimmons, Big Band/Latin jazz artist of the year Hilario Duran and female vocalist/international musician of the year Diana Krall.

It's the second year in a row for a double nomination and win for Krall, who won in 2006 for jazz vocalist of the year and best international musician.

The Canadian jazz singer, who gave birth to twin boys only six months ago (on the third anniversary of her marriage to singer Elvis Costello), also took home a Juno award earlier this month for her latest album, From This Moment On. Krall makes a stop in Toronto, May 6, to perform at the Mount Sinai Hospital Auxiliary Gala at Roy Thomson Hall.

Other Jazz Award winners from last night include male vocalist of the year, Michael Buble, set to release his new album, Call Me Irresponsible, on May 1, and the Toronto Jazz Festival, now in its 20th year, for festival of the year.

Hosted by songstress Dione Taylor and Canadian Music Hall Of Fame inductee David Clayton-Thomas, last night's gala was the sixth annual National Jazz Awards ceremony.
