INVINCIBLE SUMMER

Mark my words: This will be considered Lang's comeback album.
After two disappointing releases -- 1997's smoking-themed covers album Drag and 1995's All You Can Eat -- this latest collection -- in stores Tuesday -- finds the Albertan singer in great voice and frame of mind.
Over the course of 11 songs, she breezily documents love, summer and otherwise, on a sweet, lush bed of strings and synthesizers with the help of young, hip, British producer Damian LeGassick, a protege of William Orbit (Madonna).
The essence of the album can be found on the fun and campy Summerfling as Lang sexily croons: "Early morning, mid-July, Anticipation's making me high, The smell of Sunday in our hair, you ran on the beach with Kennedy flair."
LeGassick, meanwhile, brings a distinctly retro, Bacharach kind of vibe to the music, which Lang's thrilling voice is more than capable of handling.
Highlights include The Consequences Of Falling, Suddenly, Extraordinary Thing, Love's Great Ocean, What Better Said, When We Collide and Curiosity.
Less serious but equally appealing is the light and fluffy It's Happening With You.
However, the standout songs are the simply exquisite Simple and album-ending Only Love.
Lang is confirmed for an Aug. 23 show at the Hummingbird Centre with ShelbyLynne as the opening act.
