The Mekons never scaled the commercial heights of their UK punk contemporaries like The Clash or The Jam. But, having recently celebrated 25 years as a much-admired working band, they would appear to have had the last laugh.
And he who is laughing loudest is Mekons frontman Jon Langford. Particularly as hindsight has been very kind to mid-'80s Mekons efforts like Fear & Whisky and Honky-Tonkin', albums that presided at the shotgun wedding of punk and country.
